For a long time, current access to the First Railway in Grindelwald has been unsatisfactory on peak days during the winter sports season. The steadily rising visitor numbers in the summer months as well as the expected boost in winter sports following the opening of the V-Cableway will intensify the situation. In order to optimise access from Dorfstrasse in the longer term and to make the surroundings more attractive to guests, Jungfrau Railways has strategically secured the necessary land for this purpose.
The purchase agreement for Pension Gydisdorf was signed in November 2018. The property will be transferred to Firstbahn AG on 1 January 2019. The pension will remain on site after the sale. Jungfrau Railways is currently examining who should continue the operation and in what form.
Jungfrau Railways had already acquired the Bohren shoe shop and EW Grindelwald for the same purpose via Firstbahn AG in recent years. This will allow the Jungfrau Railways to respond in the longer term to increasing guest numbers on the First Railway, to create optimised access conditions and to secure the successful future of the First Railway.
