Rail replacement bus information Bernese Oberland Railway

The Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB) line between Interlaken Ost - Zweilütschinen - Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen will be closed from Sunday, 16 April 2023, from 20.00 h, up to and including Saturday, 29 April 2023, end of service. Rail replacement buses will run during this time. The reason for the closure is extensive construction work at Zweilütschinen station, the renovation of the Pfängli bridge and the installation of points at the new Matten stop, as well as other maintenance work across the entire route network.

BOB is planning its construction projects on a long-term basis and striving to keep the resulting restrictions and inconveniences on residents and travellers as small and short-term as possible. We have combined the three projects in order to carry out work, which under normal railway operations would hardly be feasible, in a short intensive construction phase with very compact construction programmes. This can increase work safety and the quality of the work.

Information construction projects

  • Refurbishment of Zweilütschinen railway station: The Disability Equality Act (BehiG) stipulates for public transport that vehicles and stations/stops, as well as those that are being converted for reasons of maintenance, network expansion, operational safety or similar, must meet the needs of passengers with age and disability-related impairments. In the upcoming intensive construction phase, three points will be installed and further adjustments will be made to the main tracks.
  • New construction of the Matten stop: installation of the points on the double track section between Wilderswil and Matten.
  • Restoration of Pfängli Bridge, Lütschental: removal and reinstallation of the track superstructure and substructure for the concrete renovation of the bridge trough.
  • These works contribute to an improvement in the comfort and quality of the BOB's railway system for passengers as well as to the preservation of the substance.
